![]() Maryam Mahvi sang the title role of Eva Perón in the opera Corpus Evita, nominated for a Grammy at the 2006 Grammy Awards, for Best Contemporary Classical Composition. Maryam is delighted to have helped debut composer Carlos Franzetti’s work to the world, and is honored by the critical acclaim. Maryam recorded Franzetti’s opera at Skywalker Sound with the San Francisco Camerata Americana Orchestra. Corpus Evita is a two-act opera by Argentine composer Franzetti and librettist José Luis Moscovich. The CD was recorded by Leslie Ann Jones at Skywalker. Born in Tehran, Iran, soprano Maryam Mahvi has sung all over Europe and the United States, but calls San Francisco her home. She received her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Maryam continued her vocal training in New York at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music. Maryam also sang on the soundtrack of Miramax Films’ Spy Kids, recorded at Skywalker with the renowned San Francisco Symphony. Spy Kids was also recorded by Leslie Ann Jones. She has also starred as “La Diva” in Teatro ZinZanni, San Francisco’s long-running comedy, cabaret and circus — singing arias and duets with the legendary Joan Baez. Teatro ZinZanni is a three-and-a-half hour extravaganza combining some of the world's most renowned cirque artists, contortionists, aerial artists, jugglers and illusionists with a five-piece band and a gourmet meal. Winner of several awards, including the New York Metropolitan Opera National Council Competition, Maryam has performed with various regional opera companies, appearing as Violetta in La Traviata, the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro, and Leonora in La Forza del destino, among others. As a member of the Conservatory's Opera Studio, she performed: • The Countess in Le nozze di Figaro • Fiordiligi in Cosí fan tutte • Ms. Pinkerton in The Old Maid and the Thief • Lise in Pique Dame • Alice in Falstaff Maryam continued her studies in New York, at the Manhattan School of Music, studying voice with Marlena Malas, and coaching with Janet Bookspan and Warren Jones. She has participated in various workshops and festivals, and won several awards, including second runner-up in the Metropolitan Opera's Regional National Council Auditions. ![]() Maryam has performed in several opera theater programs in the San Francisco area, including Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute, appearing in the roles of: • Micaela in Carmen • Mimi in La Bohème • Violetta in La Traviata • Leonora in La Forza del destino • Elektra in Idomeneo • Agathe in Der Freischütz Maryam has studied and sung in Italy, Germany and Austria. Her home base is now San Francisco, where she studies voice with Jane Randolph. Recent engagements have included the Napa Valley Wine Auction, the Berkeley Arts Festival, and a concert with the Oakland Municipal Band, a 35-member Symphonic Wind Ensemble. One of the best singing voices today, Maryam Mahvi is an active recitalist, often singing in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and London, performing both classical and contemporary music.
