
Dennis Donovan has been a continuous force in the San Francisco music scene for over 25 years. In addition to playing sax, flute, and guitar, Dennis is also a singer, songwriter, music arranger and producer.
Dennis has played in local venues from the Fillmore to the Golden Gate Theater, performing in rock and jazz bands, and orchestras for musicals including West Side Story, Sweet Charity and the Rocky Horror Show. His experience as a commercial multi-instrumentalist prepared him for an eclectic range of creativity. Dennis’ original tunes cover a mixture of jazz, rock, Latin and country.
Before forming the Dennis Donovan Band, Dennis played baritone sax with Full Faith & Credit, recording four albums for Palo Alto Jazz. Dennis also played with Kingfish, Bandido, and Carousel, among others. He has opened for Elton John, Linda Ronstadt, Tower of Power, Tito Puente, Jerry Jeff Walker, Hank Ballard & the Midnighters and The Kingston Trio. Dennis has also performed on stage as a member of Malo and the Coasters.
Dennis has been la ocation music coordinator for Disney, Republic Pictures, MGM/UA, and other film companies. Many recording artists turn to Donovan Music for contracting and arranging of musicians and vocalists, as well as for direction in the printing and packaging of their CDs. Donovan Music also provides bands and DJs for special events, weddings and company parties throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area.
